Altar #01
An Interactive tableau vivant. Images affect, reflect and shape conscious and unconscious mental processes. With the widespread use of hypermedia, we are able to expand the ways in which we engage and connect with images. My process has been to experiment with some possibilities for interaction offered by digital media at the moment, also to design interactions (interfaces) that explore mental spaces in a metaphorical way.
We are conditioned to think in a linear way – stories unfold, sentences follow one another, time moves chronologically forward. From a western point of view Yet, in the realm of hypermedia, linearity is no longer a given but a choice, or perhaps an illusion. Meaning fractures and recomposes, no longer confined to a singular path but scattered across multiple dimensions, inviting exploration rather than dictation. A click fractures the expected, and suddenly, we are not reading but navigating
And what of consciousness? A structured narrative might reflect waking thought – ordered, rational, sequential. Yet the unconscious speaks in ruptures, in layers, in tangled associations that defy linearity. Surreal imagery unfolds, linking disparate fragments into an emergent whole. The digital space mirrors this process, offering a non-linear terrain where images, sounds, and interactions create a new symbolic language.
In this web, images oscillate between the transitory and the permanent, between the ephemeral and the everlasting. The static and the dynamic exist not as opposites but as states in flux, perpetually redefining each other. Perhaps it is a way to search for a spiritual truth and a way to connect with hidden layers of consciousness.
